Spectator Safety – The future of rallying is in your hands
Our sport is under the safety
spotlight like never before, events are being observed and
organisers are being judged; we have to improve the way we do
things and here is the reason why.
Following the tragic accidents
of the last two years, in which four individuals very sadly lost
their lives, the sport has been tasked to improve spectator
safety. We have a very short time to do this or the powers that
be, will shut the sport down. It is very serious and everyone
has to pay attention and play their part.
For many years experienced
spectators have basically gone wherever they like on the stages,
in the belief this will gain them the best viewing. This now has
to change. As organisers we have had to look at our stages, we
have had to make decisions based on many years of experience,
where we can recommend the safest possible spectator viewing
points. This year we have one of these viewing areas on each of
our stages. They are large areas; you can see the cars from many
different vantage points in each area; there is plenty of
parking and an easy walk to the stage, and as the stages are
used twice, you will see all the field past twice. Please use
these areas, if you choose to ignore this advice it could lead
to the stage or indeed the rally being cancelled. You have been
warned.
If you are in an area where
you should not be you are risking your own life and putting the
event at risk of being cancelled.
If that happens we will happily
inform the competitors and people standing in the correct
places, that it was “YOU” standing in the wrong place that
caused the trouble. Please believe us, we will name and shame.
Please come and enjoy the
rally; it would not exist without you the spectator; but please
be sensible, use the spectator areas provided, and have an
enjoyable but above all a safe day at the
DMACK Carlisle Stages.
Finally, please spare a few
minutes to watch these safety videos produced for Wales Rally GB
and the Mull Rally:
Spectator Safety
The organisers of the
DMACK Carlisle Stages Rally
have tried to ensure that you will be able to reach your chosen
spectator viewing area without walking on the special stage. If
you decide to leave the stage prior to the last competitor,
PLEASE ensure that you walk on the pathways or behind the tree
line. All the competitors will be travelling at high speeds and
spectators are strongly advised NOT to walk on the rally route.
- Children and infants should
be accompanied by adults at all times who are responsible
for their safety.
- All spectators are reminded
that Motor Sport can be dangerous and despite us taking
reasonable precautions, unavoidable accidents can happen. In
respect of these, you are present at your own risk. We ask
that you obey all instructions of safety marshals, spectator
marshals and police officers in relation to your safety and
that of others.
- Do NOT walk to or from
your vantage point by walking on the rally route. The
atmosphere will be great – enjoy it safely.
- No dogs allowed on event –
disabled assistance dogs only.
Spectator Code of Conduct
- Please be considerate to
other spectators to ensure everyone can enjoy the event.
- Listen to the marshals –
they are there to ensure the event runs within the safety
guidelines prescribed by the FIA and the MSA, the governing
body of UK Motor Sport.
- Marshals and officials have
the right to work without being abused or threatened.
Abusive, threatening or violent behaviour towards officials
will not be tolerated and spectators will be evicted from
the event.
- Please take your litter
home with you or place it in the skips or black bags
provided for this purpose.
- Do not light fires or BBQs.
They can cause major fires with serious consequences.
- Consider your own
safety and that of others at all times.
